Alberta Ferretti Fall Winter 2021 - Milan Fashion Week

Alberta Ferretti Fall/Winter 2021 – Milan Fashion Week

March 1, 2021

The video Alberta Ferretti presented on day one of Milan Fashion Week was staged as a proper runway show – no artsy experimentations for her – we used to watch before the pandemic. She was clearly feeling the same nostalgia for the bygone times that many of us are feeling at the moment: that bittersweet wistfulness and hope that we all resume business as usual as soon as circumstances allow.

The collection tapped into the same sense of realness. ‘’I didn’t want it to be frivolous and an end in itself, I was aiming for concrete, high-quality designs’’, Ferretti said.

Though best known for her immaculate party dresses, this season, Ferretti has taken on an approach more appropriate for the current times and decided to focus on daywear, revisiting classic tropes and adding ‘’something extra to make them special’’.

The color palette spanned across different shades of petrol, emerald, olive green, robin’s-egg blue, mustard and gunmetal gray, but also veered into earthy ocher, brown and beige.

The silhouettes were clean and rigorous, in tune with the times, but there were also cocoon shapes and fuzzy textures embracing the body. Models carried their bags hugging them as for protection, wearing platform boots with chunky heels.

For the collection’s finale, a series of dramatic black dresses, plus a resplendent golden number dipped in shimmering sequins, screamed glamour. ‘’Feeling beautiful gives you strength’’, she said. ‘’As women, we need all the strength we can muster to fight, as we still have so many battles to win’’.
