For Alexander McQueen’s Spring/Summer 2018, designer Sarah Burton talked about her desire to deliver an optimistic collection. “So many terrible things happen in the world. We should celebrate people and fashion and creativity”, she said. “I wanted to celebrate beauty and femininity. I wanted to do an uplifting collection”.
Inspired by English gardens, specifically the gardens at Great Dixter, the collection was exquisite and spectacular, consisting of long-cherished, worn-and-torn couture inspired pieces and bespoke men’s tailoring, deconstructed and reconstructed silhouettes.
