Fashion week events have always been a spectacle to behold, and the recent Neiman Marcus awards event and AZ Factory show were no exception. Despite the somewhat inaccessible location, the event was held in the beautiful penthouse of the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art, with a stunning view of the city.
The highlight of the event was the collaboration between the fashion duo, Molly Molloy and Lucinda Chambers, behind the Colville label and the AZ Factory. The show reflected a perfect fusion of the arty, bohemian style of Colville and the glamour and femininity of the late Alber Elbaz. In the show notes, Chambers spoke of how she felt Elbaz’s presence while working with the AZ Factory teams, and this was evident in the designs showcased.
The designs were a mix of prints, stripes, squiggles, and repeating oval shapes, which were seen on knit dresses worn over full-legged pants. The designers also incorporated deadstock fabric left over from Elbaz’s era, including duchess satin and leather. The duo added their own unique touches with ruffles, puffy sleeves, scrunchy gloves, and flower-festooned baseball caps.
The event also showcased limited-edition stools made of oriented strand board and mosaic tile that will be sold as part of the collaboration. This joint venture between Compagnie Financière Richemont and Alber Elbaz, which was formed in 2019, has invited guest creatives from various backgrounds to showcase their talents in the wake of the founder’s death in 2021.
