Last year, Alber Elbaz unveiled his new luxury fashion brand AZ Factory, in partnership with the Richemont group, marking his long-awaited return to the fashion industry since leaving his post as the head of Lanvin in 2015. However, three months after the fashion house’s debut Spring/Summer 2021 Haute Couture collection, the legendary designer passed away at 59 due to complications with COVID-19.

Thus, AZ Factory’s Spring/Summer 2022 show was befittingly conceived as a tribute to Elbaz. 45 fashion houses (Jean Paul Gaultier, Dries Van Noten, Viktor & Rolf, Dior, Vetements, Balmain, Ralph Lauren, Lanvin, Versace… but also emerging labels like Christopher John Rogers, Thebe Magugu, Tomo Kuzumi) came together to collaborate with AZ Factory in a collection that celebrated the memory of the late designer. The show was an artistic interpretation of Elbaz’s long life dream to recreate a Théâtre de la Mode, an extraordinary 1945 project that brought together Paris’s 60 preeminent haute couture designers, as well as milliners, hairdressers, and accessory designers, to dress a series of doll sized figures that were then arranged in vignettes suggesting fashionable Parisian life.

Tonight’s celebration for our dear Alber was a magical moment – talents celebrating talent is a remarkable tribute to the man we all loved so much”, said AZ Factory’s CEO Laurent Malecaze in a press statement. “We are very humbled by the extraordinary support from all those who participated in the making of the show, and to those who were able to join us for this historic night”.
