“In the darkest of times, I also try to find optimism”, said Brandon Maxwell. For Spring/Summer 2022, Maxwell wanted to show his collection in a simple white-box space in a studio on an unassuming block in Brooklyn. “I wanted a good frame for the clothes”, he explained.

So, the American designer designed a stunning collection in bright colors, metallic sparkle and, most unusually for him, in a variety of bold prints, from trippy psychedelic stripes and mushroom prints to the pastel-hued ginghams that have quickly become among the season’s biggest trends.
He kept it stunning for evening, too, showing black-and-white kaleidoscopic knit cropped tops, tube skirts and cutout gowns, metallic pleat skirts, tightly-pleated lamé dresses and angel-sleeved dresses, with some pieces worn with cotton sweaters draped on the shoulders.
Like many of us, he wanted to feel the joy.
