Following Valentino and Dior Men in Tokyo, Coach 1941’s Stuart Vevers is the third designer in three weeks to stage a ‘’destination show’’ in Asia, more precisely in Shanghai, one of Coach’s biggest markets since its launch there in 2003.
Set at the West Bund Art Center, the ‘’Coach Lights Up Shanghai’’ Pre-Fall 2019 runway show marked the 77-year-old brand’s 15th anniversary in China. Vevers thought of it as a ‘’mash-up of New York and Shanghai’’, bringing together the ‘’bright lights, big city’ attitude’’ that both cities share.
As for the clothes, Vevers worked with rich colors, specifically monochrome looks that mixed different textures, styles and shades. He also tapped four local artists to reinterpret Coach’s mascot Rexy the dinosaur through a range of mediums including graffiti, photo prints and ink drawings.
