“Flowers are not there only for happy times. They exist also for tough, sorrowful, and painful times. Even a tiny roadside flower can heal our shredded heart”, with these poignant words Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo commented in the show notes for her Comme des Garçons Homme Plus Spring/Summer 2022 collection.

Entitled “The Existence of Flowers”, the collection gave a good place to floral prints that sometimes bloom with exuberance, sometimes in muted touches, on a range of deconstructed and asymmetrical pieces, staying true to the brand’s DNA.
The back prints on looks nine through 12 were the work of Phoenix-based collage artist Travis Bedel, aka Bedelgeuse, known for his anatomical collage work that puts bones and organs together with flowers. “Most of my work represents love, loss and letting go”, Bedel said. As for the intricate headpieces in hand-made papier-mache covered in the various floral patterns, they were from Rei Kawakubo’s collaboration with British stylist and editor-in-chief of Dazed Ibrahim Kamara.
Two other shoe collaborations also emerged from the collection: one with John Moore x George Cox and the second with Nike on a new iteration of the Nike Air Max Sunder.
