Since taking the reins at Christian Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri has sought to realign the historically male-helmed house as a bastion of feminist values and icons. For Dior Cruise 2019 show, the collection was held in the rain-soaked hippodrome of Chantilly, an hour outside of Paris, known for delicate lace and sturdy equestrians.
‘’The reason I like the escaramuzas is because they do something that is so macho – rodeo – in our vision, but they decided to do that in their traditional dresses which are so pretty, so feminine’’, said Maria Grazia Chiuri.
Inspired by the Mexican tradition of Escaramuza riders, she sent out a beautiful collection that melded the finest of Latin American and European equestrian tradition and curated floral and striped patterns to cover the slim-fit garments.
