Kim Jones will celebrate next month his third year as men’s artistic director at Dior. During these three years, he is known for his inspiration from founder Christian Dior’s creations from the ’50s but also for having called on modern art collaborators – be it KAWS, Daniel Arsham, Amoako Boafo, Kenny Scharf or Peter Doig from last season.

For Dior Men’s Cruise 2022 collection, Kim Jones took a different approach, drawing inspiration from the 1960s style archetypes of Marc Bohan – the renowned designer who helmed the label for 30 years. Thus, the graphic patterns of the one who succeeded Yves Saint Laurent at Dior at the end of the 60s inspired the laid-back, sporty lineup.
Jones played with subtle variations on the Dior Oblique pattern, while the former Dior designer’s heart-shaped “CD” lands on jackets and shirts in custom embroidery. We also find on college jackets and baseball shirts the oversized “Christian Dior Atelier” logo which took place here and there rather discreetly or printed in large on the front, next to the number “47” in reference to the year where Christian Dior presented his very first show in Paris.
Overall, the collection was crowned with casual-yet-sharp tailoring which underscored the entire range as well as a sophisticated color palette of chocolate brown, forest green, light pink and dark navy.
“The color palette was really a compilation of all our favorite colors we used over the last three years – mixing that together and bringing it forward so that we could then move into the next step of what we do at Dior. I think it’s good to reinvent what you do”, Jones said in a statement.
Another novelty of the season: the introduction of the B30 sneaker whose aerodynamic and large CD logo treatment was influenced by French modernism, a weekender bag called the Lingot, in reference to its rectangular shape, and a quilted variant on the Saddle bag.
