The British designer looked back to February 12, 1947, a date that will forever remain in indelible ink in fashion history. Christian Dior presented his first “New Look” collection that day, which changed fashion forever. The Kim Jones’ Fall/Winter 2022 collection was a vibrant tribute to the founder himself, in this year of the 75th anniversary of the luxury house.
The collection took up the emblematic codes of the house, from the “cannage” quilting to the leopard prints, through the star and rose motifs, the exuberant embroideries, inspired by the archives, such as those inspired by the Miss Dior haute couture dress of 1949, or the Bar jacket revisited here with a new, rough hewn.
Among these silhouettes that testify to the timeless savoir-faire of the Dior ateliers, sportswear pieces also occupied a spot place. They were worked in technical or luxurious fabrics, such as soft and silky cashmere, and paired with Birkenstock sandals – the brand was acquired last year by the LVMH group – to give a sense of both formality and elegance, yet informality and practicality to the collection.
Some of the models featured a reworking of Doris beret for men, by Stephen Jones who is also celebrating this year his 25th anniversary as the house’s hat designer.
