Dolce & Gabbana’s latest collection, ‘’Essenza’’, represents a return to the core of who they are as a brand.
The designers, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, stated that the collection is about simplicity, not minimalism. The collection is primarily black, with occasional light tones from crystal embroideries, referencing the wet translucence of erupted magma. Black is a fundamental element for the brand, described as “almost violent in its intensity“.
The designers focused on each piece individually, to make them stand out and avoid distractions. The collection includes impeccably tailored suits and masterfully cut coats, with a touch of pearl grey and two white pantsuits. They were interested in experimenting with new cuts, jackets, collars, and fastenings, to enhance the simple complexity of the handmade techniques.
The Fall/Winter 2023 collection is sensual, with vintage girdles and corsets on bare torsos, and nudity used to emphasize the construction’s beauty. And the show’s finale featured two perfectly fitted white crêpe jackets cut from the curvaceous patterns of their impeccable women’s blazers.
