While other designers have been experimenting with alternative mediums and messages this digital fashion week, Dolce & Gabbana doubled down on what they know best: to return to pre-COVID-style presentations.

Brand’s long-standing venue, the Metropole theater, was not currently fit for the show due to COVID-19, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana decamped 30 minutes south of Milan’s center to the garden campus of Humanitas University, the educational arm of the privately funded medical group for which Dolce & Gabbana has been funding medical scholarships since 2019.

This season, the Italian fashion house imagined a summer holiday in Sorrento for its latest outing. Inspirations came from the iconic hotel Parco Di Principe by Gio Ponti, build in the 1960s. Its intrigue mosaic patterns found all over the hotel were a key inspiration for the duo of designers. Soothing Mediterranean blues were the dominant palette with prints lifted from tile patterns. In terms of silhouette, the designers mostly riffed on louche, fluid tailoring which they punctuated with sarongs, dressing gowns, caftans, billowing trousers, white tunics, silken shirts and airy tees, to give the whole affair a true-blue Italian summer vibes.
