Marco de Vincenzo, appointed in May as Etro’s new creative director, presented his first collection for the brand, generating a lot of attention and anticipation during Milan Fashion Week.

His starting point was a celebration of fabrics because Etro was born as a textile company. “For me this season was about expressing Etro’s potential, showing that there’s a wider range of possibilities that hasn’t been explored yet. In the collection, you will not find a great presence of paisley, only a few hints, but there are denim brocades with the designs of birds, flowers, and fruits, dresses in knitwear with shaded color backgrounds”, explained de Vincenzo.

Combining Etro’s heritage with the present, Marco de Vincenzo draws from the house’s archives the essentials that he updated with contemporary stylistic proposals. The collection featured the iconic paisley or cashmere print on XXL wide-leg denim pants, hand-dyed cashmere separates in faded color stripes evoking the rainbow patterns, or bras, minidresses, long skirts and capes in denim brocade picturing flowers, birds and exotic fruits. All was exquisitely crafted.

I relied on my imagination rather than study, as I didn’t have the luxury of deep diving into the wonderful Etro archives”, he said. “It’s a collection I’ve made within myself, believing in my intuition and trusting my perception”.
