In times of crisis, uncertainty or economic and social cataclysm, we tend to take refuge in memories of the past – those that comfort us – to distance ourselves from reality.

This was the case of the design trio at Études (Aurélien Arbet, Jérémie Égry and José Lamali) who turned to the Nineties, a decade which saw music television channels arrived in France, allowing youth to discover international pop stars from the comfort of their couches.

Comfort, the word is out! Comfort was suggested in loose cuts where the relaxed and cozy spirit was found in chunky cable-knit sweaters, in fleece jackets or in corduroy coats paired with chunky knit turtlenecks.

To further evoke this decade, Études collaborated with the animated series Beavis and Butt-Head, broadcast from 1993 on the French MTV channel. Its characters were embroidered and screen-printed on tops and pants while the collaboration with American artist Martine Syms yielded messages, such as ‘’Go Slow’’, on several pieces.
