At a horse-racing facility in Paris, Clare Waight Keller presented her Fall/Winter 2020 offering for Givenchy.
Through the influences of French cinema and performance art, Clare Waight Keller continued her ongoing dialogue between strong silhouettes and soft, feminine shapes.
Minimalism was the focal point of the collection with a Mod palette of various block colors: carnelian, cobalt, black, and red. The incorporation of furs and plumage emphasized this cinematic glamour, while geometric patterns (dots, stripes and apostrophe) veered towards contemporary art. The sculptural garments were reminiscent of the neoclassical style of the 1930’s, with constructed fabrics draped over a woman’s figure.
‘’From the actress’ sultry gaze to the bodily gestures of human sculpture, lines are drawn between the gritty heyday of French cinema and musings on performance art’’, went the show notes.
