Gucci showcased its first collection without former creative director Alessandro Michele, marking a new direction for the brand.

The Fall/Winter 2023 collection, curated by the in-house team and drawing inspiration from designer predecessors like Tom Ford and Frida Giannini, featured elements such as crystal-embossed GG denim pants and Piston Lock details originally created by Ford, as well as sleek pastel-toned blazers, loafers, and spacious Jackie bags reminiscent of Giannini’s jet-setting days.

The collection also included oversized coats, jackets, and pants in contrast with fitted underwear, and motorcycle-inspired pieces paying homage to Gucci’s early 2000s archive. Accessories such as the iconic bamboo bag and a lacquered interpretation of the brand’s 1970s monogrammed canvas also made appearances.

The design team, comprised of longtime members of the Gucci house, explored the concept of “improvisation” as “an act of collaboration” and “a constructive tool for creation” requiring specialized skills and knowledge.

The collection also emphasized the archetypes of the classic gentleman’s wardrobe, with suits featuring detachable elements that can be transformed into sleeveless jackets and shorts.
