The Mobilier National – responsible for the storage and administration of the French Republic’s collection of furniture and objects used to decorate ministries, palaces, chateaux and embassies – served as the perfect backdrop for Véronique Nichanian to update Hermès men’s wear classics, as an emblem of France’s patrimony, and the excellence of its artisans.
This collection suggests a man with exacting standards and sophisticated tastes, but without ostentation. He likes lines that are clean and precise, yet not formulaic like this subtle rounded shape on the shoulder on a voluminous zipped parka, for example, or barely highlighted on a double-breasted cashmere coat.
In Prussian blue, navy, and indigo variants, it is complemented by the season’s other colours: black, charcoal grey, and cigar brown. But flashes of saffron, sage, turquoise, lilac, and vibrant green electrify a trench coat or a short jacket in rubberized canvas.
