Held at the Hippodrome du Longchamp against an interminable mirrored backdrop that reflected Paris’s cloudless autumn sky, the Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection for Hermès was a minimalist, utilitarian view of moneyed summer sport, part equestrian life, part regatta life.
There were canvas tunics, trimmed with pale yellow leather; a summer sailing coat in Hermès orange with wide sleeves and brown and rope detailing; great flat strappy sandals with everything. Vanhee-Cybulski pulled off some magically vivid colors among the neutrals – the raspberry papery jumpsuit, the turquoise parka. A few on-brand brights – turquoise, red, Hermès orange – popped up from time to time to break up this lull of neutrals.
