For his second menswear collection, Simon Porte Jacquemus has found inspiration at the intersection of land and labour (The invite for the collection, titled “Le Meunier,” or “The Miller,” and based on French workwear, was a loaf of bread wrapped in a white tea towel signed Jacquemus.)
‘’When I was a kid I was obsessed by the uniforms of my uncle who was an electrician’’, said the designer, who grew up in the countryside in Provence and is from a family of farmers.
Still, there was a nuance which spoke volumes: the worker-boys he brought to the collection were a completely diverse crew. ‘’I grew up with North African kids, but also my family is mixed – my sister has French and Algerian roots’’, he said. ‘’For me, this is the France of today’’.
