Simon Porte Jacquemus staged his Spring/Summer 2021 collection for his namesake label in a field of gold. He was the first designer to put on a runway show after the lockdown, models walked through barley fields in the French Vexin Regional National Park, about an hour outside Paris. 100 guests – among them VIPs including Isabel Adjani, Maisie Williams, Jeanne Damas and Tina Kunakey – seated at safe distances from one another, watched 55 models snake through the sheaves, a dramatic wood plank runway ran 600 meters long.

Titled ‘’L’Amour’’, the collection exuded charm and subtle heat: the women’s looks hinged on coquettish slip dresses in cream, black, and yellow, exaggerated shirts that were cropped or featured plunging necklines, high-waisted pants and bra-like tops – several references were made to provincial life, including gingham tops and frocks with appliqués that mirrored barley leaves and spikes – while the men’s on printed shirts and loose tailoring in crisp, summery fabrics.
