Like many designers working under lockdown, Bruno Sialelli embraced escapism to capture French glamour and elegance in his Lanvin Spring/Summer 2021 collection.

The designer found his inspirations in the incredible Le Palais Idéal near Lyon – located in Auvergne, South-East of France, Le Palais Idéal was built by the Facteur Ferdinand Cheval between 1879 and 1912. The palace is a real architectural and naive art treasure, reminiscent of fantastic constructions that inspired Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst and André Breton.

He also took inspiration from French artist Erté who is celebrated for capturing the look and style of the 1920s.

A homage to the 1920s, Sialelli’s collection included double-breasted suits in soft pastels, silky scarves and blouses with blown-up Erté prints, foulards, blouses and suiting colored with iconic sun-bleached neutrals and pastels. Classically designed gloves, earrings, sunglasses and hats also reference the glamour of the 1920s. In addition to these echoes of the past, buttons included in the spring collection were rounded to reflect a Lanvin perfume bottle curated in 1927.
