Nicolas Ghesquière staged his latest collection for Louis Vuitton in a replica built, erected once again at the Louvre, of the Centre Pompidou, known for its colorful exterior and high-tech architecture, built in the late ’70s by architects Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers.
Ghesquière called his new Louis Vuitton collection ‘’geolocated’’, featuring a fusion of styles and prints that stood out even against the colorful backdrop. The idea for this collection was to re-create those various ‘’tribes’’ or subcultures – before Instagram. The most obvious reference, though, was New Wave and the ’80s: many looks were framed within a silhouette of wide shoulders, some were embellished with disco ball sequins, and others glared with color-blocked and graphic Pop Art.
