Louis Vuitton showed its Spring/Summer 2021 collection in Shanghai, livestreamed from real shipping containers stacked on the Shanghai port, and a connected pontoon floating in the river. The spectacle was notable for being one of the few major fashion houses to schedule a typical fashion show this season, since the industry was upended by COVID-19, along with Jacquemus, Etro or Dolce & Gabbana.

The Virgil Abloh’s Spring/Summer 2021 presentation was rich with progressive flourishes and far-reaching inspirations. He combined recycled and reshowed clothes from a prior collection with new looks drawing on Seventies African tailoring and ska-influences.

Many of the new looks included the ‘’Zoooom with friends’’ stuffed toy characters peeping out of suit pockets or clinging to sleeves or bags. The outfits paid homage to Abloh’s father and African tailoring over a European fit.

LVMH ambassador, Chinese-Canadian singer and actor Kris Wu closed out the runway in a cream suit, wrapped in an inflatable ‘’Zoooom with friends’’ character many times larger than himself.
