Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2023 – Paris Fashion Week Men’s

The Louis Vuitton shows are always a special moment in the Paris Fashion Week calendar. Highly anticipated by the happy-few of the fashion microcosm and followed online, the shows of the flagship house of the LVMH group are also a moment of entertainment, and everything is done to make them so!

For example, the French luxury house built a giant yellow loop in the courtyard of the Louvre Museum, like a theme park version of a racetrack that climbs up to the third floor windows of the Paris museum, before descending to the west wing. The parade was preceded by an intense and joyful dance set to the rhythm of two dozen Louis Vuitton flag bearers in Tuscan style, a high-energy performance by the Florida marching band, The Marching 100, and then punctuated by a live set by rapper Kendrick Lamar performed from his seat, wearing a crown of spines.

This childhood playground vibe – childhood memories were almost ubiquitous in the late Virgil Abloh’s collections – will then be reflected in the collection’s details and accessories, such as origami paper airplanes, small boats, building blocks, beads, play dough textures and tones, cartoon prints, sandbox tools…

Entitled ‘’Strange Math’’, the Spring/Summer 2023 collection once again featured the notion of imagination, between the transition from childhood naivety to creation – the same theme was applied to the Cruise 2023 collection.

Designed by Louis Vuitton’s men’s division, pending the appointment of a new creative director who is slow to arrive, the collection revisited traditional tailoring through loose or oversized cuts, flashy colors, floral motifs like thistle and poppy – the latter nods to Virgil Abloh’s first collection of 2018, inspired by “The Wizard of Oz” – and bold details like XXL buttons, 3-dimensional embroidery and childlike patterns.
