The decision taken by Angela Missoni, daughter of the founding couple and in charge of the creative direction of the house since 1997, to step down from her creative director role to become the company’s president clearly marked the new era of the luxury brand founded in 1953. While awaiting announcements about the possible appointment of a new creative director, an in-house design team was tasked with designing the Spring/Summer 2022 collection.

It’s little surprise then that an homage to the house’s maverick founder, the late Ottavio (Tai) Missoni, was in the offing this season. Thus, the collection was keen to celebrate the pioneering vision of the house’s maverick founder, notably his passion for color, geometric patterns and knits, but also his avant-garde approach to injecting the athletic dynamism of sportswear into his clothes.
Included in this Spring/Summer offering are the inevitable knit and the brand’s signature zigzag pattern, cotton tracksuits, functional outerwear, updated sneakers with zigzag fabric details and 3D prints, denim pieces emblazoned with the number of the bib he wore at the 1948 Olympic games in London, where he competed with the Italian team in the 400-meter hurdles, as well as the house’s signature cardigans presented in an array of variations of colors and zigzag patterns.
