Molly Goddard‘s Fall/Winter 2024 collection was a whirlwind of vibrant hues, playful textures, and unconventional silhouettes, all born from a whirlwind of its own – motherhood. Fresh from a brief maternity leave, the designer condensed her usual creative process, resulting in a collection that was both quintessentially Goddard and refreshingly unexpected.

Gone are the days of precise tailoring and form-fitting silhouettes. This season, Goddard embraced the abstract, layering taffeta, tulle, and knit into what she described as “material sculptures.” Think voluminous, bubble-like shapes – some slim on top and bulging at the hips, others voluminous all over – defying traditional notions of proportion and movement.

Fuchsia, neon orange, and magenta dominated the runway, creating a visual feast that was both bold and playful. The colors were juxtaposed against each other with a carefree hand, further emphasizing the abstract nature of the collection.

While the silhouettes were undeniably statement-making, Goddard maintained a sense of casualness. Ballerina shoes and loosely tied hair complemented the voluminous skirts and sweaters, creating a look that was both whimsical and wearable.

Unexpectedly, the collection incorporated elements of Westernwear, inspired by Goddard’s eBay watchlist and her own childhood memories. Double-face knit faux Western shirts and flat, round-toe cowboy boots added a touch of rustic charm to the otherwise futuristic aesthetic.

More than just trends, Goddard’s collection was a testament to her meticulous craftsmanship. The intricate layering of fabrics, the painstaking construction of the silhouettes, and the playful use of textures all spoke to the designer’s dedication to her craft.
