Jeremy Scott thought of the French queen Marie Antoinette when he designed his latest collection for Moschino – after announcing earlier this year that he was moving his namesake show from February’s New York Fashion Week to the City of Lights in July, it’s no wonder that a certain French flair took its place on the runway.
The Marie Antoinette-inspired looks were, of course, given a modern Moschino twist, with toile-print bustles, leather jackets, gilded denim and rich velvet jacquard, all paired with sky-high hair in shades varying from platinum and pastel pink to chestnut.
Cake was also a theme for the collection, with the closing (and traditionally bridal) look being an actual wedding cake-shaped gown that could have been plucked off the top of the elaborate invite, with a full train and lace-up platform heels. Other confectionary-inspired dresses were sent down the runway, too, while bags matched the motif, shaped like cakes, croissants and a very realistic baguette.
