Born in 1979 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and raised in Idyllwild, California, before moving to New York in 1997 to study at NYU, Nate Lowman, heavily influenced by the Pop-art movement, uses some of the detritus of everyday life, such as newsprint, bumper stickers, photocopied flyers, and many others that are examples of American forms of communication, to create poignant messages critiquing the world around him, particularly socio-political issues.
His most famous subversion of violence is a bullet hole that has been used consistently throughout his work. This statement graphic is featured prominently in this collaboration, appearing on everything from sleeveless denim vests, knit sweaters, short sleeve button down shirts, hoodies, jeans as well as pins.
