Proenza Schouler Fall/Winter 2021 - New York Fashion Week

After producing a hardbound book for Spring/Summer 2021, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez have turned the page. They special-built a website to showcase their Fall/Winter 2021 lineup, shot at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, N.Y, for Proenza Schouler.

In addition to the designer duo’s relaxed silhouettes accentuated with color blocking details, Ella Emhoff – Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter who recently signed with IMG Models after breaking the Internet with her inauguration look – takes the spotlight by making her exciting runway debut.

‘’She represents the story we wanted to tell with the collection. It’s the beginning of a whole new chapter in American history, in the kind of clothes we’re wearing and are attracted to. She’s the breath of fresh air…’’ Lazaro Hernandez said.

As COVID-19 vaccines begin to roll out and the world begins to hope for an end to social distancing, there’s a curiosity about what people will want to wear as they re-enter the world of socializing.

Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez had that idea front of mind when designing Proenza Schouler’s Fall/Winter 2021 collection, creating pieces they hope will straddle both worlds when they hit stores starting in September.

‘’These days, what feels relevant is the elimination of anything excessive and superfluous. It’s very American fashion to reduce everything to its core, to its essential form’’, explained Hernandez, touching on the collective quarantine clean out craze and the resetting of values regarding consumption, particularly among the younger generation.

The result was modern minimalism remastered.

There were wide knitwear cardigans worn with gray mélange wrap skirts, elongated bias-cut dresses and loden. Essential shapes contrasted with more abstract ones that demonstrated the brand’s passion for the distinctive unmistakable craftsmanship. Fringes, full and swaying hems, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez’s passion for cut-outs and graphics that appeared in the form of prints that conveyed optimism and positivity.

The comfort feeling translated to outerwear, including a camel coat with a generous shape and leather trim, and a trim gray cashmere coat with fuzzy-wuzzy shearling collar.

‘’Super-luxurious fashion, but down-to-earth, enveloping, with hand-craft and humanity in the mix’’, Hernandez said. ‘’We want those things to coexist somehow and to address the moment we’re living in’’.
