JW Anderson, the London-based luxury fashion house, has drawn inspiration from the works of Dutch master Rembrandt for its latest collection.
The capsule collection takes cues from Rembrandt’s iconic self-portraits, which creative director Jonathan Anderson views as “the original selfie“.
The clothing items in the collection, including slouchy knitwear, hoodies, bottoms, and silk sets, are all in shades of pink and purple, and prominently feature Rembrandt’s cross-hatched pen-and-ink self-portraits. Completing the range are suede and leather tote bags, pre-distressed slip-on sneakers, and a selection of bucket hats and caps.
Anderson has a history of collaborating with other creatives and artists, having recently partnered with Pol Anglada to explore themes of queerness, body-building, and nostalgia. With the Rembrandt capsule collection, Anderson pays homage to the 16th-century artist and his groundbreaking self-portraits.
The collection is available both online and in JW Anderson‘s Soho store in London, leaving it up to the wearer to determine if Rembrandt’s depictions are real or fictional, objective or subjective. The release of the Rembrandt capsule collection follows the unveiling of JW Anderson’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection at London Fashion Week and underscores the brand’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of fashion and exploring new ideas.
