Following up on his men’s collection presented in June, Rick Owens draws inspiration from his love for Egypt for his womenswear Spring/Summer 2023 collection.
Rick Owens is back this season on the square in front of the Palais de Tokyo, a favorite place for his shows, but without the apocalyptic setting and fiery installations of his men’s show. Only a powerful fountain that projects water towards the sky, but the smoke and fog are still there.
Titled “EDFU” which takes its name from the temple dedicated to the god Horus in Egypt, a place that also influenced the designer for his summer men’s collections, the collection celebrates otherness and individuality.
“I find great comfort in the remoteness and breadth of its history. My personal concerns and global discomforts seem small in the face of this kind of timelessness”, Owens says in his show notes.
The collection deploys theatrical volumes, which cover and uncover the body, carried by a remarkable work of materials dear to Rick Owens, while the palette, exit here the usual dark shades so dear to the designer, takes a softer and sunnier direction with its neutral colors – flesh, ecru and oyster – or more vibrant – golden yellow or dark pink.
