For his debut at Roberto Cavalli – the brand was sold last year by Clessidra SGR to Sajwani, the founder and chairman of Dubai-based Damac Properties who acquired the company through his private investment firm Vision Investments – the Sicilian designer 45-year-old brings his powerful and daring creativity developed first for his namesake label launched in 2010 and then for Emanuel Ungaro in the 2013 to 2017 period, while delving also into the brand’s ‘’exceptional’’ archives in Florence in search of glamor and the Italian eccentricity peculiar to Roberto Cavalli.

‘’It’s a brand connected to Italian eccentricity’’, said Fausto Puglisi. ‘’I love this job and I respect the house of Cavalli, but I tried to understand the brand according to my own sensibility. I have a high political awareness and I respect the situation the world is in today and all that is going on. I am adding my own point of view to the brand, I don’t want to simply rely on the archives for inspiration’’.

When a large part of the fashion industry turns to comfort and easy-to-wear pieces both outdoors and indoors, Puglisi is betting on a return to loud, statement-making fashion.

His Fall/Winter 2021 collection hit all the Roberto Cavalli beats where the emblematic prints of the house are king. Zebra, tiger and jaguar prints had been revisited in graphic renderings and had even spotted in place of the 50 stars of the American flag. The collection included, among other things, down jackets – a first for Puglisi – sweatshirts, oversized quilted capes, trench coats, hoodies, casual pants with a streetwear vibe, leather biker jackets adorned with golden claws and also a lot of denim in black and beige tones that dominated the palette of the season.
