For his Fall/Winter 2020 Haute Couture collection, Ronald van der Kemp reused pieces from previous seasons to create 28 new gender-fluid looks ‘’to show people you don’t always need new things to keep it interesting’’ and ‘’to reconsider our industry and how it is participating to a world that is facing a tremendous crisis’’.
The result was a theatrical, over-the-top and very Eighties reflecting the designer’s formative decade with an impossibly high Greta Garbo brow, Kabuki-like white powdered skin, fantastical rainbow face paint, puff sleeves, polka dots, showy tailoring in bright red and wild, uncontrollable curls.
