Born into a humble family of eleven siblings, Salvatore Ferragamo was a visionary – his avant-garde, revolutionary and highly creative approach to fashion had won over all the big Hollywood stars, from Audrey Hepburn to Marilyn Monroe, through Greta Garbo, Katharine Hepburn, Marlène Dietrich, Ava Gardner, Carmen Miranda or Gary Cooper.

For Fall/Winter 2021, creative director Paul Andrew got into that experimental mind-set, presenting a young and imaginative collection. This season, he referred to the world of science fiction inspired by movies such as ‘’Gattaca’’, ‘’Until the End of the World’’ and ‘’Matrix’’ to offer a collection that revisited contemporary uniforms.

‘’For this ‘Future Positive’ collection I imagined the standard contours of today’s uniforms as fossilised remnants of a long-forgotten past, freed of all associations of class, colour or creed. This collection proposes new uniforms for a utopian future in which diversity and positivity combine to transform our world for the better. As Salvatore Ferragamo once said of his own work, this collection is dedicated ‘to all those who must walk’ – at a time when we must be united in our determination to reimagine, rebuild, progress’’, shared Paul Andrew in the show note.

Thus, the British designer breathes a young and free spirit into his neo-futuristic wardrobe with references to militaria, motorcycles, athletics and scuba.

The clothes were hybrid and structured, where leather played a major role – the brand’s core business – and fluorescent and bold colors used in monochrome, but also mohair knits, plastic-coated work pants, capes, pants and jackets in bright, biodegradable polyvinyl chloride as well as scuba sneakers.

With this collection, Andrew projected the Salvatore Ferragamo brand in a more fashionable and younger dimension, reacquainting the Florentine fashion house with its original spirit.
