For the Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2020 collection, Schiaparelli’s artistic director Daniel Roseberry said he was inspired by the Sports Illustrated old swimsuit 1980s shots of Elle MacPherson, the Australian model famously nicknamed The Body, for a series of clingy, multicolored gowns, including one with a pink skirt that was wider than an inflatable dinghy.
The Dallas-born designer also focused on the “double fantasy” of the protean Elsa Schiaparelli herself, by looking at images of Schiap at work in her studio dressed in her inventive but pragmatic daytime outfits.
