Stephane Rolland Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2022

The Théâtre du Châtelet is a special place in chanson. The work of the architect Gabriel Davioud, built between 1860 and 1862 on a commission from Baron Haussmann, is closely linked to the careers of many artists of chanson, such as Debussy, Satie, Ducas, Charles Lecocq …, and Barbara. The interpreter of “L’aigle noir” performed there on many occasions, notably between 1993 and 1997, and it is also the last place where she performed before she passed away 25 years ago.

Fashion designer Stéphane Rolland chose this iconic venue, located in the heart of Paris, to pay tribute to the Dame en noir (Lady in Black).

In this sublimely poetic fashion show, the Parisian designer drew the traits of the woman behind the artist, imagined her, fantasized about her… His twenty or so silhouettes paraded in a palette of symbolic colors including red, black (the singer’s favorite color and closely linked to her image), white and beige. The dresses were bold and sublime, using contrasting materials and 3D sculptural elements. All punctuated with voluminous jewelry in pure forms, details and reliefs evoking African ornaments, patterns and Massai tattoos.
