‘’I wanted to place fashion, women and poetry at the center of it all’’, said Pierpaolo Piccioli.
The designer staged a hybrid digital/ physical event, entitled ‘’The Performance: of Grace and Light, a dialogue between Pierpaolo Piccioli and Nick Knight’’, at Rome’s Cinecittà studios. The event included a riveting video filmed by Nick Knight, followed by a presentation of 15 stunning white gowns seen as ‘’an extreme response’’ to the tough circumstances of lockdown, a determination to overcome the technical problems of socially-distanced working in the Valentino atelier and the impossibility of creating prints and lavish embroideries.
The collection, he said, needed to be ‘’entirely different and overcome that feeling of being constrained’’. With these extreme and radical proportions, the couture gowns were an ode to the Valentino atelier’s petites mains and their exquisite craftsmanship.
