Donatella Versace loves New York, but the brand founded in 1978 by her late brother Gianni Versace has never before had the opportunity to parade in ‘’The Big Apple’’, except a Versus show in New York years ago, and the Versace x H&M show in 2011. This defect was now repaired, when the Italian house held its first show in New York last Sunday within the American Stock Exchange, the largest stock exchange in the world. The date was not chosen at random, since it coincided with the Gianni Versace’s 72nd birthday.
For her first New York fashion show, Donatella chose, of course, to celebrate the town that never sleeps, by combining the Medusa logo and Milton Glaser’s iconic ‘’I Love NY’’ state logo. The references to this city that she particularly loves, and where she had a lot of fond memories of time spent with her late brother Gianni, were strongly present in the collection. She returned to the topic of the house’s greatest hits, like the archival looks from the Spring/Summer 1994, 1996 and 2000 shows and revisited them by fusing Versace’s aesthetic with American culture. There were also many animal prints, including zebra stripes, and baroque inspired signature of the house, combined with golden touches and the mix and match color scheme, making this collection an exuberant and wardrobe for women!
