The latest Yohji Yamamoto’ collection for Fall/Winter 2020 was an ode to the classics. ‘’The classics stand the test of time’’, he said.
His collection was an exploration of historical corsets, bustles and petticoats in nearly all black. He presented some truly fabulous takes on romantic tailoring using off-center lacing, ruffles, pleats and black tulle. Other looks played with volume while padded coats were modeled on historical silhouettes, as though the models had simply rolled out of bed and morphed their duvets into avant-garde period pieces.
Yamamoto’s subverting of traditional codes of femininity into something avant-garde was definitely refreshing and was a way for women to reclaim the once restrictive in fashion and truly make it her own with attitude.
