You can’t wait to have them in your wardrobe since you first saw them on the GUCCI runway at Milan Fashion Week last February? Well, you’ll have to wait a little longer, on June 7 exactly, to finally get your hands on the pieces of the highly anticipated adidas x GUCCI collaborative collection.

Whether you’re a fan of adidas‘ three stripes or GUCCI’s signature red and green, you’ll certainly be spoilt for choice in this drop rich in references to both brands’ style codes. The range, which includes a wide range of sports-inspired pieces, veers towards a retro fitness vibe, evoking vintage sportswear from the 1970s and 80s, from tennis to golf.

To achieve this, Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele plays with silhouettes, bright colors and geometric patterns to create a kind of energetic, hybrid print, mixing the adidas trefoil and the GG monogram, which here find a synergy to amplify the legacies of both brands. The adidas three stripes and Gucci’s green-red-green stripe also appear as simultaneous appliqués on the sides of sweatpants, zip-up sweatshirts, and shorts while the lotus-shaped adidas trefoil, which first appeared in 1972, has been revisited by Alessandro Michele in colorful all-over renderings on oversized anoraks, shorts, bombers, purses, bowling bags, bobs and belted jackets.

Formalwear and sportswear also found common ground here, and their union resulted in hybrid silhouettes and formal pieces like suede loafers and silk scarves marked by casual codes.

Sneakerheads are not forgotten as they will find a special version of the famous adidas Gazelle style, available in a wide range of colors, Gucci Horsebit loafers in leather or suede enriched with both brands’ three stripes, terry cloth flip-flops or clogs enriched with the adidas trefoil.

As for accessories, they are legion with logo golf bags, colorful umbrellas, silk scarves, bucket hats made from regenerated nylon, among many others.

To present the collection, Alessandro Michele created a series of images, captured by photographer Carlijn Jacobs, inspired by archival catalogs as a group of characters strike dynamic poses against brightly colored backgrounds in a very ’80s infomercial form.
