Matthieu Blazy’s vision for Bottega Veneta‘s Fall/Winter 2024 collection stunned Milan Fashion Week with its sophisticated take on everyday wear. “I think there was something beautiful in the idea of making something monumental out of the everyday,” Blazy said, and he delivered on his promise with garments that transcended the ordinary.

The show, inspired by the resilience of nature and the power of human expression, showcased Blazy’s mastery of draping and his ability to coax beauty from the simplest materials. Billowing shirts, voluminous coats, and flowing dresses, all crafted in luxurious fabrics, formed the core of the collection.

Blazy’s signature “perverse banality” was evident in his clever reinterpretations of everyday staples. He transformed a simple black shirt into a dramatic trench coat and elevated the humble t-shirt into a show-stopping dress with swirling color patterns.

The collection wasn’t just about aesthetics; it carried a deeper message. The set, featuring swirling woodburned floorboards and giant illuminated Murano-glass cacti, symbolized renewal and resilience. Blazy’s use of fire-inspired prints and shredded fabrics further emphasized this theme, reminding us of nature’s ability to recover even after devastation.

Blazy’s masterful storytelling through his clothes culminated in a finale of red column dresses erupting with spiky fabric, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. As Blazy himself stated, “dressing well brings dignity. It’s what makes us human.”
