Bottega Veneta’s Pre-Fall 2024 collection, masterfully crafted by Matthieu Blazy, is a testament to the brand’s commitment to creating timeless, purposeful and utilitarian pieces. Drawing inspiration from the late ’60s and ’70s, an era that witnessed the birth of the women’s liberation movement and the democratization of fashion, Blazy has given the season’s utilitarian pieces a Bottega Veneta polish while maintaining a sense of ease and everyday wearability.

The collection’s development process involved extensive photographic research, including delving into old Interview magazines, as Andy Warhol was known to be a fan of Bottega Veneta. This research allowed Blazy to understand how people of the time layered and mixed and matched their clothes, resulting in unique combinations such as a suede skirt layered over suede pants and a trim crewneck paired with a striped collar shirt tucked into belted gray jeans.

Blazy channeled a spirit he described as “bourgeois but decontracté,” which is evident in the plaid button-downs (one in real cotton and another in nubuck) paired with a leather bomber and a khaki twill pencil skirt, as well as a full skirt. The handbag collection also reflects this goal, with styles that don’t necessarily feature the famous woven leather stripes, such as the eye-catching red leather bandana bag.

The Pre-Fall 2024 collection offers a wealth of options for fashion lovers to explore, from the pastel Miami pantsuits to the colorful suede intrecciato separates that include a repeat of the skirt-over-pants silhouette. The turquoise and red leopard print pants with matching pumps and the vibrant horizontal striped knit dress with the nubby pile of a carpet are statement pieces that showcase Blazy‘s creative vision.
