Brunello Cucinelli‘s Fall/Winter 2024 collection embodied the essence of “gentle luxury,” a term the designer himself prefers over “quiet luxury.” Eschewing ostentation, the presentation showcased an ode to artisanal craftsmanship and understated elegance.

Models glided down the runway in nonchalantly layered ensembles, exuding an effortless sophistication. Thigh-length silk blouses peeked from under oversized, sequined knits, while loose velvet, satin, and flannel pantsuits draped over feather-trimmed tops. The collection seamlessly transitioned from workwear to cocktail attire, each piece a testament to the brand’s commitment to quality and timeless design.

A focus on intricate details and luxurious fabrics defined the collection. Hand-crocheted one-piece garments adorned with floral motifs and intarsia designs exemplified the meticulous craftsmanship. Double-bonded and padded techniques lent a fresh perspective to classic napa and suede coats, while veiling and layering on knits offered subtle hints of transparency.

Cucinelli reinterpreted classic motifs with a contemporary touch. Argyle knits were adorned with sequins and presented in a feminine silhouette, while Irish cables and ribbed knitwear offered timeless comfort. A-line skirts juxtaposed with masculine sweaters and shirts added a touch of unexpected charm, while mohair tuxedos and matching outerwear sets rounded out the collection with a touch of playful elegance.

Inspired by Cucinelli’s love for literature, the presentation mirrored the ambience of a Caffè Letterario. Carolina Cucinelli, the brand’s co-president and co-creative director, described it as “a place where ideas can be shared.” In lieu of traditional show notes, guests received a printed gazette titled “The Solomeo Post,” its front page adorned with the evocative quote: “Beauty never slumbers.”

Cucinelli’s philosophy of “gentle luxury” resonated throughout the collection. Defined by “creativity without excess,” “honest geniality,” and respect for others, it celebrated the beauty found in simplicity. While the collection embraced clean lines and relaxed tailoring, it also incorporated unexpected details. Luminous sheens and intricate embellishments added a touch of subtle extravagance, showcasing the brand’s mastery of both comfort and sophistication.
