Wes Gordon, Carolina Herrera’ creative director, recently welcomed the arrival of his second child, Georgia Rose Arnhold-Gordon. Despite the added responsibilities, he remained focused and confident as he presented his latest collection at the Plaza Hotel. The show was a success, with models making their way down the stairs, creating a grand entrance.

The designer explained that he wanted to create something sumptuous and opulent for the fall season, with rich fabrics and layers of tulle to showcase the craftsmanship. The collection was inspired by the historical drama “The Empress“, which showcases a mix of romance and rigor. Gordon described the look as a combination of military discipline and opulence, which he believed was the recipe for elegance.

The Fall/Winter 2023 collection was filled with spectacular pieces, including topiary tulle gowns in black-and-white stripe and canary yellow. Gordon also showcased all-black looks, including a stretch crepe jumpsuit with sculpted roses and a cinched-waist satin organza overskirt. He also presented monochromatic silhouettes in black-and-white and blocks of color, as well as opulent pieces such as a black cropped jacket and pants with gold bullion trim and a regal-looking black gown.

On the more pop side of opulence, Gordon presented a winter white jacket and short skirt suit with jeweled embroidery. He also used a beautiful woven chine fabric of lilac and evergreen damask on several gowns, from a traditional draped column dress to a sportier hooded anorak gown.

Despite having to take delayed paternity leave, Gordon expressed that it was worth it, as he believed this was their most elevated and luxurious collection yet. With his confidence and talent, it’s no surprise that the show was a success, and we can’t wait to see what he has in store for us next.
