Louise Trotter, the Creative director at Carven, is solidifying her vision for the brand with her sophomore Fall/Winter 2024 collection. Building on the success of her debut last season, Trotter presented a thoughtful and assured continuation, further shaping the Carven woman of today.

Trotter’s focus is on creating wardrobe staples with enduring appeal. Think supersized coats with relaxed shoulders, flowing tops, and elongated skirts – all rendered in a soothing palette of neutrals punctuated with pops of scarlet and pistachio green. Texture takes center stage, with fuzzy knits juxtaposed against dresses in luxurious, shaggy ivory fringe.

Comfort is paramount for Trotter. She eliminates unnecessary details, allowing the quality of the fabrics to shine through. Draping and thoughtful construction create a sense of effortless sensuality, evident in tops with cascading collars that reveal the back and scooped vests paired with sculptural skirts. Quirky details like padded ballet flats add a touch of whimsy.

This Carven woman is more mature than recent iterations. Trotter skillfully blends masculine and feminine elements, blurring the lines between daywear and evening attire. Tailored blazers and wrap skirts are layered with dancer-inspired pieces, creating a laissez-faire approach to ladylike dressing.

While the collection feels fresh and modern, there’s a subtle nod to Carven’s heritage. Trotter acknowledges the legacy of Madame Carven, drawing inspiration from her preference for column and hourglass silhouettes. These influences are evident in the elongated proportions of pleated wool dresses, roomy coats, and softly molded tops.
