From Dallas to Mumbai, via Cuba, Seoul, Dubai, New York, Salzbourg or Shanghai…, the locations of the Chanel Métiers d’Art shows are as important and strategic as the making of the looks themselves. Indeed, these locations often pay homage to the workshops that provide the house with the materials used to create the looks.

And for its new Métiers d’Art collection, also known as Pre-Fall 2023, Chanel travels for the first time to Africa, more precisely to Senegal, to Dakar, a city that tends to assert itself as the cultural hub of Africa.

The choice of [this location] is the result of meetings three years ago with friends of the house who have lived there, who are carrying out artistic projects there, who are planning to do so, or who are simply interested in its creative effervescence,” read a press release. “Dakar is an influential artistic capital on the international scene, especially in all the fields that are dear to us such as fashion, cinema, dance, literature, contemporary art, and music.

It was in the former courthouse in Dakar – the brand contributed to the renovation of the building this year – that artistic director Virginie Viard brought out the energy of the 1970s through flared pants in multicolored tweed, pointed collars, vertiginous platform sandals, long and narrow coats, and colors and patterns with a seventies vibes.
