Converse collaborates with Brooklyn-based jewelry and accessories designer Martine Ali to introduce the Converse x Martine Ali Chuck 70 De Luxe Wedge. A marvel of design and versatility, this shoe represents a significant leap in both style and function.
Martine Ali’s vision for the Chuck 70 De Luxe Wedge is nothing short of revolutionary. The shoe features a radically sculpted, angular midsole that not only serves as a design element, but also adds nearly four inches (10cm) of height. This bold approach to the classic Chuck Taylor All Star silhouette results in a shoe that boldly stands out, yet retains a sense of refined elegance.
The design takes inspiration from an unlikely source – wading boots. This influence is evident in the unique, transformative look of the shoe. The Converse x Martine Ali Chuck 70 De Luxe Wedge features an asymmetrical square toe and a luxurious full grain leather upper that harmoniously blends the time-honored aesthetics of the original Chuck Taylor with a bold new vision.
One of the most distinctive features of this collaboration is the dual expression of the shoe. Wearers have the option of wearing their Chuck 70 De Luxe Wedge with or without gaiters. True to Martine Ali’s New York styling, the gaiters are all black with stud closures that reflect the designer’s love of metallic finishes. Crafted to be both breathable and durable, they feature full-length zippers and waxed laces for a range of styling options.
Martine Ali talks about the design, emphasizing its versatility: “With the wedge, I designed a shoe that becomes what you want it to be. Casual to dressy, low key or even loud. High or low. It was important for me to make something that went from day to night, something that can be worn by anyone to anything. It feels like the ultimate shoe for self expression.”
This extraordinary collaboration between Converse and Martine Ali, the Converse x Martine Ali Chuck 70 De Luxe Wedge, debuted globally on converse.com and at select global retailers. In Europe, the collection will be available at select retailers in early 2024.
