The Fall/Winter 2023 collection by Coperni is a breathtaking interpretation of a classic fable from the 17th century. The collection takes inspiration from the timeless story of “The Wolf and the Lamb” by Jean de la Fontaine, a French author who wrote fables that were both entertaining and critical of French society at the time.

This collection asks the question “Who are the wolves and the lambs in today’s society?” and explores the relationship between technology and humanity. The designers at Coperni are fascinated by the concept of who dominates whom – do we control technology or is it the other way around?

The collection is a reimagining of the iconic imagery of fables, brought to life in a contemporary setting. From the capes and draping reminiscent of ‘’Little Red Riding Hood’’, to the prints inspired by Gustave Doré’s gravure of “The Wolf and the Lamb“, the collection transports the wearer to a world of myths and fables. The large hoods incorporated into jackets, dresses and tops, embody the themes of fragility, danger, purity and naivety.

Coperni also brings attention to the concept of sustainability, using upcycled leather waste in solid colors and exclusive printed designs. The garments are designed to hug the figure, creating a feeling of comfort and warmth, much like a blanket wrapped around the body. The use of tweed fabric in modern shapes such as deconstructed skirts and elegant jackets, showcases the old tradition of weaving in a contemporary light.

One of the standout themes in the collection is the Emoji theme, a nod to the current generation and their playful use of technology. From jewelry to bags and belts, the Emoji theme brings a sense of humor and playfulness to the collection. A locket necklace, in the shape of the Swipe Bag, pays homage to the heritage of previous generations.

The embellished pieces in the collection, designed by Loreleï Borgiès, under the mentorship of Coperni at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, explore the relationship between romance and technology. The reflective material used in these pieces shines when exposed to light, transforming the wearer into a magical and dreamy world.
