Jil Sander‘s Fall/Winter 2024 collection, presented by creative directors Luke and Lucie Meier, offered a departure from the brand’s usual minimalist aesthetic, embracing a world of enveloping silhouettes, rich textures, and a soft color palette.

The show’s setting, with its plush sage green carpeting and cobalt blue accents, hinted at the comforting and protective mood the Meiers aimed to create. This theme resonated throughout the collection, evident in the rounded shapes, padded coats, and draped dresses.

Tactile delights abounded, with models showcasing plush velvet, fuzzy knits, and padded leather pieces. Openwork crochet provided a textural counterpoint, while chunky cable knits were layered with ethereal netting for a blurred effect. Quilting featured prominently, appearing on capes, vests, and even couture-like dresses.

The color palette, predominantly monochromatic, included warm shades like chocolate and plum alongside unexpected pops of pastel mint and pink. Chainmail fringing added a touch of edge to several looks, while a silver strapless gown offered a glamorous contrast to the calming sage green hues.

While some critics found the exaggerated padding and furry shoes a bit impractical, the Meiers’ intent was clear: to offer a collection that embraces comfort and softness in a world yearning for a sense of security. As Lucie Meier aptly stated, “Who doesn’t like comfort?
