How to preserve the DNA of one of the oldest fashion houses still in business today and to appeal to the Gen-Z generation? Such is the challenge for Lanvin’s creative director Bruno Sialelli, who seems to have found the compromise, by unveiling a collection combining elements of Art Deco and Comics.

“We were trying to express Art Deco through a different prism, and we thought of Gotham City”, he said backstage before his show staged at Salle Pleyel before adding: “with what we have just experienced, I think we will experience a revival of the Roaring Twenties. It is interesting for Lanvin to revisit this period of history because it was a time of significant prosperity for the house”.
Thus, he took the theme quite literally, plastering oversize images of Batman, Robin and Catwoman on everything from men’s suit jackets to holographic tops, silver mesh party dresses, shirts, hoodies as well as on sneakers. Batman motifs were also printed on silk separates, etched onto crisp mens shirting and blazers, or painted onto slinky chainmail mini dresses. A handbag shaped like the Batmobile was pure Instagram bait.
As for the palette, the saturated colors of those comic panels infuse the collection: rich petrol blue, violet and scarlet, like venomous flowers alongside Lanvin’s delicate daisies.
